Why families pick LPC

40 years of play-based learning

We’ve taught the same way since 1984: emergent, interest-led, child-driven. When kids lead their own learning through play, they build problem-solving, creativity, and independence that packaged curricula rarely reach.

Teacher longevity

Sandy has been here since we opened in 1984. Casey since 1993. Talia since 1999. Teachers stay, which means your child builds real relationships with adults who know them by name, mood, and current obsession.

A real backyard, not a parking-lot installation

Hobbit house. Apple trees. Trike path. Tunnels, movable logs, blueberry bushes. The woods-in-your-backyard play most Lexington kids don’t get anywhere else.

"They loved my kids as if they were theirs, and supported and celebrated their very different personalities."

Our programs

Toddler and preschool classrooms, year-round, with two-, three-, or five-day schedules to fit your week.

Toddlers playing together on the LPC playground

Toddlers

15 months – 2 years 9 months · 2 teachers per 8 children ratio · 3 classrooms

Classes run at 2:8 — two teachers for every eight children. That means more lap time, more one-on-one attention, and fewer handoffs when a child needs a grown-up they already know. Toddlers explore through sensory play, music, art, and outdoor discovery.

Preschoolers on the LPC nature playground

Preschool

2 years 9 months – 5 years · 2 teachers per 10 children ratio · 3 classrooms

Classes run at 2:10 — two teachers for every ten children. Fewer transitions, more one-on-one time with teachers who know your child’s name, quirks, and current obsession. Our emergent curriculum follows that knowledge: through projects, art, storytelling, and outdoor exploration, preschoolers build the habits they’ll carry into kindergarten.

The people who make LPC home

Sandy has been here since 1984. Casey since 1993. Talia since 1999. Low turnover isn't an accident.
